Farida, aged 9, and her sister Hudallah, aged 6, are the only daughters of the Iddrisu family. When our social care staff first met the family, they found them living with their mother in unsafe accomodation.
Their mother was very sick and unable to seek medical care due to financial constraints. Farida and Hudallah were underweight due to malnourishment and unable to attend school because of transport fees. Our staff also observed that their mother’s ill health was impacting the children’s mental well-being.
The family was registered with Al-Ayn, and all of their needs were assessed. We helped them find safe and secure housing and ensured they had the provisions to live with dignity. When our social care staff visited the family again, they noticed a remarkable improvement. Both Farida and Hudallah looked healthier and were now attending school. Presently, Farida is in the 4th grade and Hudallah is in the 1st grade of primary school. The children have all the books and resources they need and are happier and healthier than ever.
Farida and Hudallah are very close to each other and share many similarities. Both love the colour pink, adore their teddy bears, and enjoy reading books. Looking ahead, Farida envisions herself becoming a nurse in the future so she can help cure those who are sick like her mother. Hudallah, known as the joke-teller of the household with an infectious laugh, dreams of being a pilot so she can travel around the world.
Farida and Hudallah are two children whose lives have been completely transformed since receiving support from Al-Ayn.
Stories like theirs underline the importance of our work for orphaned children and the profound impact it can have. Please consider supporting our efforts, by making a donation.
